General Mill Information
These advanced-design air mills are easy-to-use, fast and economical. They can handle difficult and abrasive materials without contamination, and with no heat generation. Trost™ Air Impact Pulverizer
-
Uses directly opposing jet streams to cause particle-to-particle, head-on impact - four times the impact power of a single force against a stationary object. Utilizes fluid energy - compressed air, steam or other gases to produce impact. Generates no heat and can be used for low melting point substances. Can take almost any material - in fact, every kind of plastic powder, pharmaceutical, chemical or natural material and pulverize it.

micron fineness. Has interchangeable parts,
for controlling jet stream volume and velocity
- to produce the optimum particle size and output.
-
Has removable liners and
parts to match the material being pulverized
- effectively eliminating liner damage by abrasive
materials with virtually no down time for clean
up.
Is available in various models that can produce
from a few grams to 5,000 pounds per hour. TROST™ Air Impact Pulverizers are exceptionally easy
to adjust for the particle size and output you
want.

How It Works..
The TROST™ air impact pulverizer,
as shown, gets its impact power from opposing
jet streams of fluid energy. As material is
fed into the hopper, it is fired through the
P-tube. After impacting head on with material
moving in the opposite direction through the
O-tube, both are swept into the classification
chamber. Here larger particles move to the outer
perimeter of the chamber through centrifugal
force, and travel down the downstack and through
the O-tube for further impact and fracture.
Fine particles, however, move toward the center
of the classification chamber and are discharged
into bags, cyclones, drums or collectors.

Variations
Liners are available in
urethane, stainless, nylon, PTFE and tungsten
carbide. The liners are removable and interchangeable
depending on the material being ground. The
P and O jets can be easily positioned to increase
or decrease impact. The ID of the P and O tubes
can likewise be varied to control the impact
and hence particle size.
Coating and Compounds
Encapsulating of particles
is possible by injection of coating material
into the feed. All particles are coated while
reduced. Because of the unique flow pattern
by the TROSTTM design, an intimate mix is attained.
Plastic and other powders can be compounded
with the TROST™ Pulverizer. Materials
can be pre-blended or fed simultaneously for
continuous compounding.
Test Grinds
We will test grind your material
for a nominal fee which is fully applicable
to the purchase price of a mill. Tests provide
data on feed rates, SCFM, equipment design modifications
and product evaluation. Preliminary testing
is recommended, for it insures the purchase
of equipment which will do the job.
Back to Top Gem T Research Model
The TROST™ Gem T, one of the smallest fluid energy pulverizers made, is ideal for small quantities and low power requirements. It can be operated for 20 minutes with one standard compressed gas container. The Type 1047 assembly consists of a feeder and cyclone mounted with the pulverizer on a stand. This unit can be supplied without feeder (an aspirator feeder fitting being substituted for the feed hopper), without the cyclone assembly, and without the case. A change from one type of accessory assembly to another can be accomplished with only a screwdriver. All assemblies include a valve and gauge for each jet, and another valve for shutting off both jets at once. The unit is completely ready for use when hooked up to fluid energy supply.
TX Laboratory Model
This model is a favorite in many universities and experimental laboratories of industrial, pharmaceutical and chemical concerns. The TX is supplied with a Syntron® vibratory feeder with control, stainless steel cyclone, one gallon product collection jar, DuPont Dacron or cotton air relief bag, gauges, valves and hoses. All are mounted on a stainless steel cart, and boxed in the assembled position for shipment. The two air hoses connected to the jets have control valves for pressure adjustment. A ball valve is provided to shut off both jets simultaneously.
Feeding is accomplished by using a ring stand for a funnel with a throat up to 1-1/4". The feeder trough is V-Shaped to provide the best feed characteristics for fine powders and is made of stainless steel to permit thorough cleaning without rusting. Depending upon the feed size and density, the feed rate can be regulated from 1/2 lb. to over 50 lbs. per hour.
T-15 Pilot Plant
The Trost T-15 has a Syntron FM TOC-3/4 feeder machine and is mounted on a steel stand. The stainless steel cyclone, with 15-gallon fiber drum, overhangs the stand. Jets, gauges, valves, with connecting fittings for each jet line, are standard equipment. Hoses can be supplied; the length desired should be specified. The air relief bag is 5 ft. wide when flat by 7ft. long in cotton or Dacron. The mounted assembly is boxed for shipment, with cyclone, drum, bag and fittings separately packed within the box. The feeder is mounted with a specially designed support integral with its base. The drum lid is stiffened and sealed under its rim; the drum itself is polyethylene coated on the inside. The feeder machined hopper holds 3/4 cu. ft. of material. The hopper and V-trough are of stainless steel. The range of flow, depending upon the feed bulk characteristics, is 1 lb. to 250 lbs. per hour.
